In 2011 Hawthorne, California established the first Wednesday in October as Have a Coffee with a Cop Day to enhance the rapport between police officers and their community. Of course, a donut usually accompanies each cup of coffee. Hawthorne isn’t that big of a town so maybe that works. But I’m guessing if we try this in NYC where we have a population of eight and a half million and a police force of about 50,000 it is a bit of a mismatch. If every citizen followed this advice, each cop would down about 1,700 donuts today. Or as a cop would term it – a Wednesday.
