Many National Days I feature in this blog are simply an excuse to try a recipe or riff on favorite foods. But today (Friday, June 7, 2019) you can get free goodies at the following shops:
My favorite donut shop by far is KRISPY KREME and they offer the best deal of all. You can get one free donut of any flavor, no purchase necessary. Stop by when the “HOT NOW” light is on!
The big dog DUNKIN’ (they dropped the DONUTS last year) will give you one classic donut when you purchase a beverage. The waterfowl wetailer DUCK DONUTS will give you a free bare cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar donut, no purchase necessary. CUMBERLAND FARMS will give you a free donut with the purchase of any dispensed beverage between 5 AM and 10 AM at new concept and remodeled locations. Whew – lots of conditions there.
LAMAR’S DONUTS will give you any free donut with a hole. And RANDY’S DONUTS will give you four free glazed donut holes between 6 AM and noon. Sounds like Lamar and Randy got together on this deal!
You can get one free glazed donut at SHIPLEY DO-NUTS between 5 AM and noon, no extra charge for the hyphen. You can also get a free glazed donut at any WALMART but times vary per location. Give them a ring.
Finally VOODOO DOUGHNUTS offers a homer doughnut which has strawberry frosting with multicolor sprinkles for $1. Not free, but maybe they’ll put a spell on you for no extra charge.
I recommend that you check these and other donut shops in your area and then drive around all day getting whatever they offer. You’ll have quite the donut collection by the end of the day! Happy National Donut Day!

#ATOBTTR update – Okay, my Cincinnati Reds. You split the Cardinal series because of the rain out and tonight face the Phillies. I can’t stress strongly enough how important it is for you to get above .500 and out of the Division cellar before the end of June. I know you can do it and be crowned not only the World Series Champions but also the Come Back Kids. Go get ’em. Go REDS!
