National French Toast Day

Today is National French Toast Day.  I like every carb breakfast option from waffles to pancakes.  But French Toast holds a special allure.  Based on that basic building block of bread if made correctly it is warm, creamy and satisfying.  There are many creative ways to create it but at its heart it is simply bread dipped in an egg and milk bath and fried up gently.  The French call the dish “pain perdu” for “lost bread,” reflecting the ability to turn stale bread into a fresh and delicious meal.  Using Challah Bread is all the rage but I prefer my homemade sourdough.  Make some today.  I always make mine with a dash of cinnamon.  Yum!
