Earlier this month I celebrated International Gin Day with a Gin and Tonic because summer was just getting underway. But the third Saturday in June is my favorite day because it is National Martini Day. Let us be clear, any Martini must be made with Gin. Anything else, whether vodka or chocolate or apple or any other thing that some call a martini is some other concoction, it is not a Martini. It is preferably with olive but I will tolerate garnishes if you must. It should be shaken hard with tiny shards of ice on the surface and it must be drunk when still cold. Now if you will excuse me, I have much drinking to take care of on this very special National Day! Cheers!
