Today is National Lineman Appreciation Day and while I certainly appreciate all they do to keep the connection between my home and the electrical generating plant, I don’t have much more to say about the topic. I do, however, challenge those of us of a certain age to keep from singing the “Wichita Lineman” song by Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb.

I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main roads
Searchin’ in the sun
For another overload

I hear you singin’ in the wires
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line

I know I need a small vacation
But it don’t look like rain
If it snows that stretch down south
Will never stand the strain

And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line

And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line

Did you make it through the song? Too young to remember? Look it up in your favorite app and add some real music to your playlist,
