National Talk in an Elevator Day

National Talk in an Elevator Day was established in a simpler era to encourage strangers riding in a vertical travel metal box to stop ignoring your compatriots and chatter a bit. In most cases this was met with stony silence or renewed focus on the smartphones held in front of us. This is what elevator travel used to look like.

But in the age of the coronavirus pandemic elevator travel has changed. Now you are more likely to be greeted by this when the doors slide open.

So it is very likely this particular National Day will take on an entirely new dynamic as people try to avoid breathing, let alone talking in enclosed spaces. Happy National Let’s Not Talk In An Elevator Day!
