It’s been several months since I posted a health update. Partly because my recovery seems insignificant in context of the global pandemic and partly because I am in a stage of incremental improvement and hopefully final stages.
My ankle is essentially locked forever due to the rod holding it together. I am finally acclimating to this condition and can actually walk around the apartment without a cane but use one outside when there is not always a handy wall or piece of furniture nearby to grab onto if I wobble. The cane is seldom weight supporting now so there is improvement. I will apparently always have some pain from time to time due to the multiple surgeries to address the sepsis but it is slowing becoming more manageable every day.
I routinely wear a variety of bracing on it, partly to relieve the pain and now honestly partly for psychological reinforcing reasons. That may go on for quite some time but it is less intrusive than previous modes. I think from here on out it will be slow and steady improvement and hopefully no more updates will be necessary.
