National Peanut Cluster Day – and a simple recipe

Today is National Peanut Cluster Day and when peanuts cluster, they like to do it with chocolate. I am here to help.

Want a simple homemade candy recipe that includes a fun game? These are called Mystery Flavor Peanut Clusters.

Take 2 bags of chocolate chips and 1 bag of butterscotch chips (OK, you know now, don’t tell anyone) and melt them in a double boiler or microwave, stirring occasionally. Toss in 4 cups of redskin peanuts and mix well. Spoon clusters onto a nonstick surface (like a Silicone Baking Mat) and let cool to room temperature. They can be refrigerated for up to a week, but they won’t last that long.

When (or if) you share them tell your friends that beyond the obvious chocolate and peanuts there is a third flavor and ask them to identify it. They will need to try several servings before guessing. Only about one in ten will get it right (many swearing that some flavor of alcohol was mixed in). When you tell them what the flavor is, they will need several more to confirm the flavor. Always happens. They will not last long. Enjoy!
