The 2018 TONY Awards were announced yesterday. With my love of theater and Broadway, I have seen a majority of the nominations but not all. There were no shocks or surprises this year. There were a number of great productions on the boards this season and the TONY Award show on June 10 should be fun.
You hear all the time that the real honor is in the nomination and I would agree. Picking among the nominees becomes impossible in most case. Consider Best Actor in a Play, I’ve seen four of the five nominated. All are terrific, but in very different ways and for very different reasons. Choose between
Best Leading Actor in a Play
Andrew Garfield, “Angels in America”
Tom Hollander, “Travesties”
Jamie Parker, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”
Mark Rylance, “Farinelli and the King”
Denzel Washington, “The Iceman Cometh”
I’ve seen all but the Harry Potter plays and loved all the performances. And so it goes for all the categories. Congrats to each.
