Today is National Croissant Day, one of my favorite food groups. Not those mass market imitations but fresh made by a local bakery who knows what they are doing. While we recognize this delicate pastry as a French product it was apparently invented in Vienna and the shape derives from the Islamic crescent after a battlefield victory.
Not sure about that but I CAN tell you the best place to get a croissant in New York. Go to La Bergamote at either Ninth Avenue and 20th Street or their shop on 52nd Street just past Tenth Avenue. Not only great croissants but other delicious French pastries. Go there.

TOMORROW: A lot to talk about…
My first job was working in a bakery, making croissants! https://mrmatthewruddle.com/2017/01/06/baking-off/

How wonderful. Not sure I could do that as I would eat most of what I made!
