Back in January I posted about the planned cessation of publication of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette by the owner Block Communications. I mourned the information as I am a big fan of newspapers and had lived in Pittsburgh in the late 90’s so was also a fan of the publication. I was recently delighted to read about the planned purchase of the newspaper in my beloved New York Times. a couple of quotes from the article.
“The Post-Gazette is one of the oldest newspapers in the United States, tracing its history back to The Pittsburgh Gazette, which was founded in 1786. It has been owned by Block Communications since 1927, and has won multiple Pulitzer Prizes. Its closure would have made Pittsburgh one of the largest metropolitan areas without a major newspaper.” “The Post-Gazette is one of the oldest newspapers in the United States, tracing its history back to The Pittsburgh Gazette, which was founded in 1786. This is excellent and I had never heard of this foundation. I am a big fan of not for profit foundations providing news as I listen regularly to NPR and PBS. Perhaps no nonsense journalism is a dying art and needs to be preserved by foundations. I wish them the best of luck!
