Are you watching my Rally Reds?

Did you see the game last night? The Atlanta Braves, with the very best record in the National League and an eight game winning streak rolled into Great American Ballpark to take on my Cincinnati Reds. My Rally Reds are an upstart bunch with the most comeback wins this year and an amazing eleven game winning streak coming into the game. In an earlier series the Braves had swept the Reds which was scary. One team would limp out of the stadium with their wining streak shattered.

Well, it would not be my Reds who now have a twelve game winning streak. The game was sold out and the Reds, in a sporting gesture, spotted the Braves with a five point handicap and proceeded to take the game with an eleven to ten score. Amazing. Two special notes:

Elly De La Cruz, who I highlighted in a recent post, hit for the cycle. Most major leaguers go their entire career with never hitting for the cycle (hitting a single, double, triple and a homer in a single game). And Elly De La Cruz did it in the third week of his MLB career! Unreal. For the Reds the last time a player hit for the cycle was Eric Davis in 1989 and before that in 1959 by Frank Robinson. Great Examples to be part of. Amazing!

Also in my opening day post on the Reds I said:

And baseball is my preferred sport. I am especially excited about the MLB rules this year. I fantasize that this fledgling Reds team will better master the new rules and rise to greatness. Check back in in June. But for now, hope is high, and possibilities are endless. Go Reds. I am ready for the new season.

I was right or at least prophetic or perhaps lucky. And last night they won again. Indeed the New York Times has a special section of sports writers called The Athletic that recently wrote an article noting that the Diamondbacks, Orioles and Reds had succeeded this season by having a roster that exploits the new rules. I rule. Go Reds!
