Review of “Death by Lightning” – I’ve been here before.

Back in 2020 I read the book “Destiny of the Republic” by Candice Millard and reviewed it on my blog (yep, you can search my blog to find that review if you really wish to). As a history buff I was entranced by the work and enjoyed it tremendously, heaping it with praise. Well recently Mike Makowsky took this history book and transformed it into a four part series on Netflix. It was thrilling.

Translating the tale of 19th Century American politics and bring the tale of the assassination of President James Garfield by Charles Guiteau was surprisingly entrancing and captivating. Even though I was already well familiar with the story as a history buff and having read the source material I could not look away. The roles of Garfield, Guiteau and the entire world created by the film was rich and deep and mesmerizing. I was especially struck by the portrayals of Roscoe Conkling and Chester A. Arthur.

If you have Netflix I heartily recommend that you add it to your queue.
