First Prize for my New One-Act Play

In the last few months I complete a new one-act play titled “Father is Back in Town.” Anytime I complete a new script it can take time for me to pass it around to friends to read and comment on and then it can take months for perspective theaters to read it, consider it and decide if they like it. The nature of this business is that very few outlets will select it and it can take years to find the theater where it might be selected and hopefully performed.

The is why I am thrilled to announce that this script was already selected as the First Prize Winner in the One-Act Play Contest held by Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. It also comes with a small cash prize which is rare in these cases. There were also three honorable mentions of other scripts, including some by well known playwrights. Drury University reserves the right to produce any of the winning plays royalty-free during our 2025-2026, 2026-2027 or 2027-2028 seasons, so I do not yet know when it will be produced on their stage. But of course I will post it here if it does.

A decade ago this same department produced an earlier one-act play of mine (“Big Payday”) and I had the chance to travel there to see it. So I am looking forward to them doing this script as well.
