Those who know me well and/or regularly read this blog are very familiar with my Wordle obsession. Wordle is a New York Times daily word puzzle that was created during the COVID-19 lockdown. The New York Times bought it and made it available to non subscribers as well. It has steadily added features, most notably a computer program that plays the daily puzzle along with you. It has the advantage of a full dictionary of words it references and evaluates your score, comparing it to you.
In Wordle you try to guess a five letter word in less than six tries. It is challenging but accessible to all. I play it every day and the Wordlebot always comments on and rates my efforts. A major luck feature is what starting word one chooses in comparison to the daily hidden Wordle word. I use a different starting word than what the Wordlebot claims is the most efficient. Typically my comparative score ebbs and wanes as time goes on, sometimes I edge out Wordlebot and most of the time the program stays ahead of me. When I do better than edging it out I crow a bit. Ahem…

Quite simply, my score of 3.1 is far better than the running Wordlebot score of 3.4 and the public’s score of 3.8. As thrilled as I am at my current success, I am well aware it will slip and change as days go on. But I get bragging rights this morning. For context and those who play the game my total score (after playing 1200 times) to compare to your numbers. Not perfect, but pretty darn good. Happy playing…
