National Handshake Day celebrates one of the most common and ancient means of greeting another person. It is theorized that shaking hands started by opponents grasping each other’s wrist to mutually confirm they were not armed. In today’s world there are strict rules of the handshake, not too limp, not overenthusiastic or lengthy. And definitely dry.
So could I find a photo for Throwback Thursday with a handshake? Well, sharp eyed followers will recognize this photo. I was one of the hosts in the Junior Achievement Awards show in Broward County way back in 1975. To the embarrassment of the sponsors my company had been one of top achievers that year which meant I was receiving and distributing awards at the banquet sitting at the head table podium. I did not fit their image of a corporate presence with my long curly hair, ruffled shirt, and my crushed red velvet tuxedo (nice boutonniere as well). But strong handshake, right?
